For 20 years or so my main job has been translation, from Japanese to English and vice versa. You'll get a good idea what kind of material I tend to translate by looking at one of my 'work' websites, especially
www.ThanetTranslations.co.uk. Most jobs involve business documents (it's almost impossible to survive by translating books or personal correspondence), and in my case these tend to be in the areas of public relations, finance, law and patents. I also do some specialist DTP, especially oriental business cards or brochures, and occasionally interpret for the UK and Japanese governments. Sometimes I also give presentations or run courses about translation-related topics, e.g. at international conferences or business networking events, and I am one of the most active members in the
Institute of Translation & Interpreting's
Japanese Network.
