What's the purpose of this site?
 
I've had a personal website since 1996, first on CompuServe then FreeServe. Originally I aimed to provide a range of information that couldn't easily be found elsewhere; but now much of it can (thanks to Google) so I'm trimming it back. Most of what's left is too quirky, specialist or personal to upload into Wikipedia; conversely, much of what used to be here has now gone that way.

I'm also now using this site for new projects such as Ōzaru Books and the Impromptu Ensemble.

 

Why Ozaru?
 

大猿 (properly Ōzaru) is the Japanese for 'Great Ape'. I chose it as my martial name in the Bujinkan some 20 years ago. Many great apes are nearly extinct, and I try to help protect them by taking part in events such as the annual Great Gorilla Run.
